Drug checking allows people to test substances for dangerous contaminants before use. It is a harm reduction strategy that saves lives.

Fentanyl test strips

Paper strips detecting fentanyl in a dissolved sample. Available from harm reduction organizations. Not 100% reliable but significantly reduce risk. Increasingly legal across states.

Reagent testing

Chemical tests identifying substance classes. Marquis, Mecke, and Mandelin reagents identify common drugs. Available from DanceSafe.org. Identify what a substance IS but not everything it contains.

Spectrometry services

Some harm reduction organizations offer laboratory-grade testing (FTIR, GC/MS). Provides detailed composition analysis. Available at some festivals and fixed sites. The gold standard but limited availability.
