Why they co-occur
Shared impulsivity and reward-seeking traits. Gambling environments promote drinking. Substances lower inhibitions for riskier gambling. Both provide escape from negative emotions.
Treatment
CBT addresses both conditions. Financial counseling for gambling-related debt. Gamblers Anonymous alongside AA/NA. No FDA-approved medication for gambling specifically, but naltrexone shows promise.
