PHP vs. IOP: Comparing partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient

PHP
6-8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Full-day treatment with daily therapy, psychiatric oversight, nursing support. Return home each evening. Typically 4-6 weeks.
IOP
3-4 hours/day, 3-5 days/week. Part-day treatment with group and individual therapy. Maximum flexibility for work. Typically 8-12 weeks.
When PHP is right
Stepping down from residential, symptoms too severe for IOP, medication needs close monitoring, or more structure needed than IOP provides.
When IOP is right
Mild to moderate symptoms, stable living environment, working or in school, or stepping down from PHP.

Is PHP or IOP better?

Does insurance cover PHP and IOP?
