How to tell people you don't drink without making it weird

The dreaded question: want a drink? Truth: nobody cares as much as you think. You need way less explanation than you think.

Simple responses

No thanks, I'm good (works 90% of the time). I'm not drinking tonight. I'm driving. I'm on medication. I'm doing a health thing. I don't drink (direct, confident, done).

For pushers

If someone pushes past your decline, that's their problem. You owe no one an explanation. Your sobriety is not up for debate.

When to disclose

You never have to tell anyone you're in recovery. You choose who gets that information. I don't drink is sufficient for anyone.
