You quit weed and your dreams are cinematic, hyper-real, and sometimes terrifying. This is REM rebound.
Why it happens
THC suppresses REM sleep (the dreaming phase). Your brain spent months or years in reduced REM. When you stop, your brain binge-dreams to catch up. The result is hyper-vivid, emotionally intense dreams.
Timeline
Peak intensity weeks 1-3. Significant improvement by weeks 4-6. Normalizes by months 2-3. Some people actually enjoy the return of vivid dreaming once nightmares subside.
Using dreams
Dreaming about smoking is extremely common and does not mean you will relapse. It is your brain processing the change, not predicting the future.
