Intake (day 1)

Medical evaluation (vitals, blood work, medication review). Psychosocial assessment (substance history, mental health, family, employment). Belongings search. Orientation to rules and schedule. Room assignment. You may feel scared and overwhelmed. This is completely normal.

Daily schedule

Wake up 6-7am. Morning meditation or check-in. Breakfast. Group therapy (2-3 hours in 1-hour sessions). Lunch. Individual therapy or specialized groups. Free time or exercise. Dinner. Evening programming (12-step meetings, skills groups). Lights out 10-11pm.

Types of therapy

Group therapy (the core): process groups, psychoeducation, skills training. Individual therapy: 1-2 sessions per week with your primary therapist. Family therapy: usually begins week 2-3. Specialized groups: trauma, relationships, anger management, gender-specific.

The arc

Week 1: adjustment, detox completion, getting oriented. Weeks 2-3: deeper therapeutic work begins. Weeks 3-4: processing, planning, preparing for discharge. Discharge planning starts early and includes aftercare, housing, employment, and continued treatment.
