Reviewed for accuracy by licensed clinical professionals.

Hydrocodone (found in Vicodin and Norco) has a half-life of approximately 4 hours. It is one of the most commonly prescribed and tested opioids.

Detection

Urine: 2-4 days. Standard opioid panels detect hydrocodone. Blood: 12-24 hours. Saliva: 12-36 hours. Hair: up to 90 days.

Metabolism

Hydrocodone is metabolized to hydromorphone, which may also be detected. CYP2D6 enzyme activity affects metabolism rate.

Factors

Liver function, age, body composition, hydration, and whether combined with acetaminophen (which does not affect hydrocodone detection).
