Kratom's primary alkaloid mitragynine has a half-life of approximately 23 hours, meaning it stays in the body longer than many people expect.

Detection

Urine: specialized kratom/mitragynine tests can detect use for 5-7 days. Standard drug panels do NOT detect kratom. Blood: 2-3 days. Hair testing for kratom exists but is uncommon. Saliva testing is not standardized.

Testing reality

Most workplace and treatment drug tests do not include kratom. However, some specialized panels and forensic tests can detect mitragynine and its metabolites. Military and some government testing may include kratom.

Factors

Chronic heavy use extends detection due to accumulation. Liver function, body fat, hydration, and individual metabolism affect clearance. Kratom combined with other substances may alter metabolism of both.
