How long does Subutex stay in your system?

Reviewed for accuracy by licensed clinical professionals.

Subutex contains buprenorphine without naloxone. Detection is identical to Suboxone since both contain the same active opioid.

Detection

Urine: 7-14 days. Requires specific buprenorphine panel, NOT detected on standard opioid screens. Blood: 2-7 days. Hair: up to 90 days.

Subutex vs Suboxone

Detection is the same because both contain buprenorphine. The naloxone in Suboxone is poorly absorbed sublingually and does not significantly affect testing.

Why Subutex exists

Subutex is prescribed when naloxone is contraindicated (pregnancy) or not tolerated. It has higher diversion potential than Suboxone because it lacks the naloxone deterrent.
